Be sure to take it easy, the Flu can really get you down.  I took a Flu shot

That's good.  Hopefully your friend will get a new machine.

I saw a list of apps which do not work at all or work correctly under Vista. 
You can probably do a web search for that list.  MS does not advertise that
very well.  Vista has a different driver model than XP and additionally does
not allow (because of security reasons) any kernel mode access by hardware
drivers.  Most hardware vendors have been slow to adapt or have come out with a
statement to the effect that new hardware is needed.

nVidia and ATI both have refused to support some of their older graphic
chipsets under Vista.  My brand new (at least to me) nVidia card is an example.
 Many folks are upset because of this.  Doesn't bother me because I do not
intend to run Vista.  I'm a Leopard man!  BTW, to make you feel better, there's
a list of apps that are broken or do not run well under Leopard. :)  I guess
that's progress.  :)

At one time I used the Office shortcut menu bar but have long since given up on
it.  Takes up too much space and I don't think MS even included it with Office
2003.  And as far as I know, it's not included with Office 2007.
