Tom and All,

A friend of mine who retired from the phone company has told me that the
current electronic system in use has to have an attachment for each line
that uses pulse, but tone dialing doesn't need that attachment.

The attachment converts the pulses to tones so the system can interpret
the number dialed.

My friend lives in Kentucky and there is a charge for each line that
uses touch tone dialing, no extra charge for pulse dialing.

Where I live in Indiana, my phone co. back in the late 80s or so decided
to not charge extra for touch tone dialing.

My friend says he wonders why the extra charge for tone, but no extra
charge for pulse, even though extra equipment is needed for converting
pulse dialing to touch tones.

Also, I have a Princess dial phone with a lighted dial, but I don't have
any transformer connected to it.

The wall socket it is connected to is wired for only 2 wires not 4, but
the dial lights up when it off hook.

I got the Princess phone long after I had fooled with adding jacks to
other areas in my house, and those jacks are only wired with 2 wires.

I am not trying to start an xfmr   no-xfmr war, just saying how my
system is connected.
