Give it a try. I've used that part of restore several times, very
convenient to restore individual files or even whole folders.

I guess your Acer is a desktop then. I'm sure you'll find a way to get
inside of it. :)

I bought the external keyboard and mouse yesterday. Gave it a try last
night and it works as advertised. Somewhat more cumbersome to turn off
the internal display on the MacBook leaving the external on by itself.

The MacBook has an option to "mirror" the display or extend the desktop
by using the external monitor. No easy way to switch between displays
without putting the MacBook to sleep first in order to operate in "clam
shell" mode. Although for some reason today I was able open the cover
on the MacBook and keep its internal display off while at the same time
have the external on.

The maximum resolution for the MacBook internal display is 1280 x 800
but when it detects the external monitor it switches to 1680 x 1050 but
only if the external is on by itself. That's a nice feature.

Easy switching of displays is something Apple could learn from Tosiba, Dell,
IBM, and so forth. My Toshiba laptop (now my daughter's) can easily switch
between the internal and external display.

Somethings are easier to do on the MacBook but not everything.

It's like I said, now is the time to buy those large fast hard drives
and more memory while prices are down. Costco has a 1 TB drive on sale
for $249.00.

Regards.
