Apparently that's the way it works with the VB version for OS X.  After the
program is installed it presents a wizard where a VM can be built. From the
build VM wizard it offers an array of options from a menu. One of the menu
items is "settings".  From the settings menu, items to install and adjust such
as ACPI, APIC, enhanced USB, CDRom, video memory are offered.  Selection of HDD
size and memory are made from another setting during the build.

Unlike Parallels, there is no option to install Guest Additions after the VM is
built.

As I mentioned to Jeff in another reply, the program and VM are difficult to
uninstall and remove.  The uninstall routine actually opens a CLI Terminal and
runs a removal script.  However, it does not remove the VM which as you might
suspect can be a very large file.  In my case it was slightly over 4 Gb.  Since
I'm somewhat familiar with the Unix file system I knew where it might be. 
Still took me quite some time to locate the file and delete it.  (Spotlight
could not find it.)

VB is definitely not for a novice or casual user.  Fusion or Parallels is a
much better choice.  VB is still under development and should get better over
time.
