The DHCP server of Verizon/whatever ISP typically will feed your router with
the DNS servers as well as any other settings needed.  These, in turn, will be
directed to your computers behind the router's DHCP server unless you
specifically change them (as with the OpenDNS settings you're using).  Having
them set to 0.0.0.0 in the router should mean that what Verizon is providing
will be passed onto the internal computers.  You can prove that by resetting
the router with no DNS servers and renewing the DHCP lease on any computer -
just check what the servers are set for.  I did just this to make sure my
changes were recognized and acted upon.

I was one of the earliest Road Runner customers back in 1998.  They charged me
$100 to provide an ISA (!) NIC, install the software (there was a login screen
back then) and do the cabling.  Of course, now you can do self-install for free
but that wasn't an option then, even if I knew more than the installers.  There
were a total of 3 installers that showed up - the cable installer, who checked
signal strength, etc., the primary computer installer and a trainee who was a
Mac person learning Windows.  Of course, I threw them a curve by having NT 4.0
installed and all bets were off so I ended up doing most of the computer stuff,
including showing them how I could run the login software as a service using
srvany.exe from the Resource Kit so I didn't need to click to connect.  Ah, the
joys...  ;)
