Printers have the potential to be ugly in any operating system-- in a message
to Jeff, I mentioned how easy I found it today, setting up a Ubuntu system, to
print to both of my printers here-- but I know it could easily be otherwise, as
your experience shows.

I've had long and ugly printer installations in Windows with various HP models
that required big downloads, long installation time, and reboots, and then
turning off multiple unnecessary startup applets.

And for a long time the Mac had issues (mostly resolved now) about only be able
to print across a network to a very small number of printer models. And it took
several generations of Mac OS X before the printer configuration utility was
reasonably easy to use.
