Ärende: What else is missing?
==============================
Hello Jeff,

Been rather busy (when I haven't been working)...

I played around with Windows Server 2003 for a while - didn't like it and I
trashed the install. It was like having a cop looking over my shoulder all
the time, asking me if I was sure that I wanted to do that and asking me if
I had permission to do that. Why would I type the command (or click on the
application) if I wasn't sure that I wanted to do a particular task? Why
would I need permission when the only account is the Administrator account?
Microsoft has gone overboard in their effort to protect the user from
himself...

Bought a HP 2133 Mini-Note book - I have a lot of extra time at work, (and
more than thirty hard drives that I've collected over the years) a bunch of
USB cases, and I've been going through the drives trying to collect all the
data that I want to keep and deciding which drives I can format, which
drives to keep intact and which drives I can use for other purposes...

The HP 2133 came with Vista Business 32 as the installed OS. Included in
the retail box were some CDs for Windows XP Pro to "dumb it down" if I
didn't like the Vista Business (hey, that's kinda cute: "Vista Business").
I haven't experienced it enough to decide whether to get rid of Vista and
go to Pro, but I do know that it's something like the Server 2003 - asking
if I'm sure and do I have permission (if this is the "wave of the future",
it is going to take me a very long time to get use to it and I can't see
many businesses wanting to use this software if the workers are wasting
time answering questions from the OS rather than getting any "work" done).
Of course, I may have grunged the initial setup and that could account for
my reasoning that this OS is just too persnickety.

Now, to get to the topic of this message...

I have *finally* completed the Windows 2000 Pro installation (still have
about a dozen or two software installations to perform) - what a chore the
install was and I am glad that I only have to do that once every two years
(I'm getting better with every installation I do -- I'm keeping notes about
what I tried, what went wrong, the order of the install, the tweaks. etc.).
I didn't bother installing SPs 1, 2 or 3 - I went straight to SP4. It is
my understanding that everything in SPs 1, 2 and 3 are accumulative within
SP 4 (clarification, if you would be so kind).

Microsoft has applied all hotfixes, etc...

I decided I should go "Run -> MSCONFIG" and I get a "file not found"
message. Search the hard drives and, sure enough, it's not there. Get the
trusty thumb drive, copy the two MSCONFIG files from the 500MHz machine,
put them on the new install machine, do the "Run -> MSCONFIG" and all is
well. Now, if those two (insignificant) files were missing, what else is
missing? Is there an "easy" method to determine what files / programs
_should_ be on the new install machine?

Also, I installed TweakUI on the new install machine, and I inadvertently
clicked on the box that controls TweakUI in Control Panel (TWEAKUI.CPL).
Now, I can't access TweakUI from Settings... If I delete the hidden
Tweakui.GID file, will that permit me to access TweakUI from settings
again?

           Thanks ... Gerald
