Word was first developed for Xenix (a Unix varient) (which I wasn't aware of!)
with subsequent versions released for DOS (1983), Mac (1985)... the first
Windows version wasn't released until 1989.

re. Excel, the Mac version was also released in 1985, the Windows version in
1987.

Microsoft was an early developer for the Mac, using the experience of writing
for a GUI platform as an aid when developing for Windows.

It's not a question of whether MS Office comes pre-installed on Macs or
Windows, though Apple pre-installs a trial version of MS Office on pretty much
all Macs sold, while Windows PCs come with any of a variety of 'productivity'
software packages pre-installed depending on manufacturer, model, and what the
user may have pre-ordered. MS Works, WordPerfect Suite, MS Office trial or full
version, or none of the above may be pre-installed.

In any event, the Mac versions of MS Office or Eudora is Mac software, the
Windows versions are Windows software-- it's silly to consider these pieces of
software inherently either Mac or Windows programs.

Mac laptops-- like Windows or Linux ones-- happily work with pretty much any
USB mouse; they even have right-button support, no extra drivers or set up
needed.
