        That is what I mentioned, I was away in the boonies, using
   the Thinkpad. I questioned the 54 when on a b-mode AP.

        I saw in the router where a string could be input and also in
   the different WiFi NICs where the same string can be placed. The
   problem is with the Mac. It is the roadblock in our case, not for
   Charles nor Alan, for sure. We have to find a date/place where the
   Mac expert can set up his mother's NIC.

        I am not really helping the discussion, Jeff, when making
   references to two different locals, using two (three or more)
   different systems and OSs too. In the above paragraph of yours, due
   to my poor typing, the two situations are mixed. The report of 54
   on a b-mode was away from home on the Airport. Here at home, I see
   and I get connects at 100, no Airport, a Trendnet.

        This is also where the Mac could not connect to my AP here
   when two Thinkpads were able to connect and work the Web, why a
   reset of the AP cured her problem still has me baffled.

        As everybody is working now, it is fine until I start meddling
   with encryption, wish me luck. I would hate to have the AP
   encrypted then not be able to remove the string.
