Sorry - I'm referring to the other messages posted outside of
this thread saying how easy it all is. I remember the poster of
those messages keeping this echo busy many times trying to help
him. Even now he admits that there are parts he never figured
out and just left them as they were because he feared messing
up what was working.

I find the terminology extremely vague. I really believe this
entire process could be simplified if anyone ever fully
understood how it all works and cut to the chase without being
sidetracked by offering unnecessary 'options' for first time
persons attempting a P2P connection.

Understood. The interface/menus are not identical from W98SE to
XP which I find very amusing since it's doing the same thing.
Why they felt the need to change this is beyond me.

My brother's machines are comparatively new but some time ago
when I was being encouraged to attempt this on legacy hardware
I pointed out then that I had no way of knowing if the NIC's
were fully functional or not. I could've spent days fighting
with non-functioning network cards or just one non-functioning
card.

This was the reason for the eventual re-install of W98SE. I
didn't trust that my brother had not been experimenting trying
to set this up before I got there and I am not familiar with
what the defaults are/were and would have no way of knowing.

AFAIK there is no 'Network Wizard' for W98SE. I _did_ use the
wizard from within XP though (it failed to setup W98SE
properly).
