Hello CHARLES,

Responding to a post in the WIN95 area:
    On Friday March 18 2005 at 12:41,
CHARLES ANGELICH [1:123/140] wrote to GERALD MILLER,

Your brother's machines are now networked or the attempt was not
successful?

GM>> ;-) Only certain aspects are easy, the rest is "ball breaking" work!

Would this P2P be PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol)? Quoting from
my TCP/IP for Dummies reference:

A VPN (virtual private network) is a restricted communications environment
carried on the (very public) Internet. A VPN is secure because it runs
through a private tunnel on the Internet. That tunnel uses a TCP/IP
protocol, PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol).

Quote off. While PPTP is part of the network suite within TCP/IP, it is
one of the more complex (I've found) parts. My (amateur status) suggestion
would be to get the very basics of peer-to-peer networking established
_before_ making an attempt at PPTP or VPN.

I would agree with that request also. Google can provide much good
information (at "most" times), but it can give enough information to choke
a horse -- information overload.

BR>>> But no, it's not "easy" or "simple" unless you get lucky.
 BR>>> <chuckle>

Due to my recent catastrophe, I may be able to start a description for
W2k....

Maybe I misunderstood what I read in the Dummies book, but that's the exact
purpose of TCP/IP, be a "translator" between the various OSes (*NIX
included) so that the 'bumps' would be negotiated -- translation is
provided during transfer. Nothing is ever perfect, though.

           Cheers ... Gerald
