Alan,

I don't use a wireless router on my Desktop computer.

What I was desireing to turn off was the Wi-Fi on the Acer Notebook I
bought from my brother.

That is exactly what I didn't want happening.

I have tried inputting 192.168.0.1 in Internet Explorer but nothing
happens.

I will try it again on the laptop to make sure I am correct in what I am
typing here so I won't cause more confusion.

All IE8 shows is: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.".

In a CMD window I typed IPCONFIG/ALL and it showed 192.168.1.1, so I
tried thatand got a "Internet Explorer has stopped working" window on
the screen.

When I did the ipconfig/all thing I also saw a line that said: IPv4
192.168.1.101 so I am going to try that in IE8.

That also says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.".

I have no idea how to find the built in Wi-Fi settings in the notebook.

I have went through the notebooks WPA(WPA2?) procedure and have saved it
to a flash drive so when ever (if ever) I want my Desktop to connect
Wirelessly to the notebook I'll be able to do it.

Clear as Mud now??????????
