OK... that means it's the Summer 2001 release- which was the last of the G3
iMacs; FW is Firewire... I don't know what the GR is either, though. A nice
system that should still have some life to it.

The RAM can be expanded (if it hasn't been already); it has two slots for
standard PC100 (or PC133) SDRAM.

Here's a link for a 2001 MacWorld article on upgrading the RAM and hard drive
on G3 iMacs... it gives instructions for both the slot-load models like yours
and the older tray-load models:

Do you know any local Mac users who could loan you an OS X CD? Note that you
would need either an Apple retail disc or the disc that came from similar
hardware- the disc that came with different Apple hardware (say a Powerbook or
something) probably wouldn't work with it.

Also, burnt copies of the install disc generally don't work.

A PowerPC-specific Ubuntu disc might work for you- and would probably be usable
with a PC USB keyboard.

In booting this (or other Mac) to the CD, remember to hold down the 'C' key on
the keyboard when you hear the system chime sound at startup. Keep the key down
until you can hear the CD grinding away.
