They don't work with my eyes.  I've esophoria (I believe that's the proper
term, it's not "cross eyes") meaning one set of eye muscles is shorter than the
others causing my eyes to constantly strain to focus.  My eyes point inward
nearly six diopters (out of eleven diopters possible "travel").  The 3D Magic
Eye stuff never worked with me; I can't "lose focus" long enough to see it
properly. <G>  My left eye points in more than my right and with that, that 3D
effect is completely lost on me.

It's bad enough that the recommended surgery for my eyes won't work now; the
opthamologist said that the surgery would probably make things 100% worse and
that I should stick to glasses (no contacts for my main eyesight problem).

Unfortunately, I've already developed fairly strong farsightedness and my
esophoria has gotten considerably worse.  In fact, I'm going in for an eye exam
this week.  I have a very hard time focusing on anything that is closer than
arm's length and regularly wear non-prescription reading glasses (my eyesight
is okay for reading, just need the magnification).  I recently had to get
stronger glasses; went from 1.25 diopters (weak) to 2.00 (strong).

Also, my eyesight is changing a wee bit because of my health, but I'm in no
danger of losing my eyesight.  It's all I can do to drive right now without
newer glasses-the glasses I got last year have already become too weak and
don't "do" anything for my eyesight.  For the past ten years, I've had to get
glasses nearly every year and they are not cheap.  The last pair I paid for "on
the market" were $480, $340 of it for the lenses alone.  My lenses are so thick
that I'm getting limited on what frames I can use.  I have prisms in my glasses
and they can only be cut reliably in certain materials.  Thankfully,
polycarbonate is one of them so it's a lot lighter than real glass glasses.

But I can still see.  It's better than my 34 year old sister who needs glasses
badly (she has astigmatism just like my mother) and refuses to get them.
