 NO, not at all.

You see the vast majority of nuclear fallout is generated by ground 
burst, AKA: above ground nuclear testing.
Which is now and for some time, 1964???, been banned by international treaty.


See a ground burst, as the trinity site was sucks up all sorts
of dirt and debris into the tens of tons and that's just where and when 
the highest energy radiant nuclear flux is most concentrated.

That debris in itself becomes highly dangerous radiocative fallout.

Now an air air burst say at 8,000 feet similar to the Hiroshima and 
Nagasaki blasts that aforementioned debris never gets sucked up into that high 
radiation flux so it never becomes  itself radioacative through
bombardment incredible concentrations of neutrons, gamma rays, beta rays and 
alpha waves. 

So taking a potshot I guess maybe 99.7 percent of the radiation
is eliminated in an air blast and the actual totally destructed 
radius of total damage also greatly enlarges.

Now if you want to get really revolted ask me about biological effects
on human beings like the Bikini H-Bomb blast and the the hole it dug to
the depth of the island to that the hight of the Empire State Building
and thus that far underwater.

All that debris was hot, so hot a Japanese fishing trawler crew got
dusted some 60 - couple hundred miles away, one died before they got 
back to port, all got radiation illness.

OTOH the British did an over land H-bomb test of considerable
force at something like 40,000 feet directly
over British troops and while they only got very light radiant
exposure think like 8 chest X-ray tops.

But then thta bomb yield had been better than expected and thus 
blew the boys around and more or less destroyed a few buildings 
at the nearby air base.

... No matter where you go, there you are.
