To add a bit of critical review one simply needs to decide from go
they want a *hardware* based machine and not one with Windows driven
software card:, sound, modem, required Windows driver for inexpensive printers.

My luck has been with Older Gateways and IBM's
as they tend to be standards compliant hardware and chipsets.

I've no experience with Lenovo, Acer or E-machines.

Not so much as a hiccup installing in either.

Now with these still fine for Linux boxes disappearing my only real
option is to build my own from a selected motherboard.

There is a link at www.linux.org to various peripherals and
hardware known to work with Linux out of the box.

Just my 2 cents.
