Thanks for reminding me about the back story.... yes, you'd mentioned getting
a unit for digitally recording TV, storing to the hard drive or DVD.

From your message, I wondered whether you were talking about the DVD burner in
one of your Thinkpads or something.

I recently started using a something similar, though less fully-functional than
yours... only records TV signals to DVD - no hard drive included... but it was
cheap ($40), cheap enough that I got one for my son, too.

Records OK - recognizes the blank DVD+R and DVD+RW discs I've fed it... my one
gripe; when setting it to record, it asks you to set a record quality, which
affects how much it can store on the disc... but (like some VCRs) it refers to
the various levels with mystery acronyms: EP, SPP, LP, etc - so each time I set
it, I have to refer back to the user's guide.
