I need to start a W9x to XP website I guess. I keep reading
about related topics and losing the URLs. 

There is information at Microsoft about how some software only
_partially_installs_ when the executable is run. It puts
temporary information in the registry so that when the
installed software is executed the first time it knows it is
the first time and asks for more information to fully configure
itself. 

The _point_ to this discussion at Microsoft's KB was that those
who use registry 'cleaners' frequently are likely to remove
these temporary entries in the registry which prevents the
newly installed software from fully configuring itself at the
next reboot. 

Having read this I've looked for any mention of this in FAQ
files or other instructions for installing new software and
find few that mention the install is _partial_ until the next
reboot.

I would be very interested in anything you find out as to why
this is happening. Unnerving to see your changes flipped back
each time and not know what is doing this.
