I can't help with the explanations, Ed. My usual trick is to use some sort of
'export' and/or 'import' (message or folder) option(s) provided in either OE or
TB. Maybe your ISP's server has similar?

An alternative for me is to use one of my spare email addresses that my own
POP3 server scans for me when checking for emails... from about 6 or 7
different accounts. I.e., if there ain't no export function then I simply
re-send/forward the email(s) to my other address.

Now, address books are a different science altogether. I would again look for
export & import options from the various servers/programs, particularly
starting with the program that you want to import _into_ to see what formats
can be 'seen', and, then do the export from your source server/program using
that format. It will still be 'touch & go', though; there may still be some
tidying up required, as these things have never run smoothly for me over the
years.

Good luck with it!

Cheers,
Paul.

I replied to You:

PQ>Good luck with it!

Paul,

I have been thinking it over and I think I will go to the ThunderBird
Forum and see what I can find out there.

Paul,

I finally managed to get my DSL Address Book AND Messages from my Sent
box into Thunderbird 2.0.0.24 (2010 0228).

Some of the help I got is from your message above and I got other help
from someone in a Mozilla Thunderbird Forum.

To get the sbcglobal/at&t/Yahoo! Address Book, I went on the internet
and signed in to my DSL email account.

I clicked on the Contacts tab, then clicked on Tools.

A drop down menu showed Export as a selection so I clicked on it.

The next screen had a selection for Netscape/Thunderbird with a button
along side it with the words Export Now on it, so I clicked it.

After I typed the mixed up characters in the picture, I was allowed to
select the place on my hard drive I wanted to put it at.

In TB 2 I clicked on Tools - Import and then selected the Address Book
option and away it went.

Now when I click on the Address Book button in TB I can select either
address book to use.

Later on I will try merging the DSL contacts that are not in the TB
Personal Address Book listing into it.

To Export the messages in the DSL Sent box I got back into my DSL email
account and selected the Sent message box.

Next I clicked on Mail Options.

On the page that opened was a link to Archive Messages into an Qutlook
Express ZIP file.

After grabbing it, I signed out and opened Windows Explorer and
double clicked on the file to unzip the file into another sub-directory.

That directory then contained a directory called Sent.

I used Vernon Buergs LIST.COM to look through the files in the new Sent
directory and saw that most of them were .eml files.

I took a bit of time to look for help on Thunderbird Help and found out
that a Add-On called ImportExportTool looked like it would do the trick.

After installing the Add-On in TB I clicked on Tools - ImportExportTool
- Import all eml files from a directory
- Also from its subdirectories.

After it got finished at first I didn't see any of the messages were
added to my Sent box.

I tried again.

On my third try I clicked on the Sent box instead of the default Inbox
and did the procedure again.

That time the messages were added to the Sent box.

My first two tries had put Doubles of my DSL Sent Box messages in to the
TB Inbox. :-(

The DSL Sent Box I Imported into Thunderbird held 446 messages, now I
have to figure out how to remove those messages from my Inbox.

It Was A Learning Experience!!!!!!!!! ;-)

Thanks for the help.

In case someone else remembers helping me on this project, I say Thanks
to them also.
