==============
ML> EV> Lately I have been adding Web based BBSs into my Speed Dial
ML> EV> Add-On in Firefox, just to have them available to click on
ML> EV> if I needed/wanted to visit them to look around or if I was
ML> EV> having trouble connecting to Doc's Place BBS.

ML>FWIW: if you try mine, it is telnet and POTS... i do have a web
ML>site but it doesn't access any part of the BBS other than the files
ML>areas... my forums are quite separate from the BBS' message areas...

 EV> OK.

EV> I don't do long distance POTS, and I have tried Telnet a few times
EV> but I prefer the GUI type BBSs.

i understand... not a problem at all... many do prefer the clicky clicky stuff
and that's why i want to maybe do this GUI interface for my existing setup...

EV> I have already placed Waldo's Place USA GUI in Speed Dial (a Add-On
 EV> for FireFox).

EV> Thanks for telling me that Your Files Area is available on the HTML
EV> page. I'll look around there sometime.

yup! you'll see it listed in the left hand menu about half way down...

ML>i'm hoping to one day be able to provide web access to the BBS proper
ML>but that's going to take some time as i wade thru the huge learning
ML>curve that is present when moving from procedural coding to object
ML>oriented GUI coding... i won't even mention the wholly different
ML>coding environment... but at least it is still pascal which i grew up
ML>with ;)

EV> Well Sir, Don't force yourself to do web acces just for me.

no chance of that happening!

EV> Learning to Code isn't fun, CBM Basic, GW-Basic, Basic-A and QBasic
EV> is all I've ever tried to learn.

yeah... i started out on whatever BASIC came on the TRS-80 Model 1, Level 1
machines... we added an extra 16K of RAM to it for something like $1000US back
then... no disks of any kind... cassette tape recorder with standard audio
tapes for bsaving and bloading the code...

EV> I don't think I'm cut out for Visual Basic, I've looked at some VB
EV> Code a bit but couldn't get it in Fat Ed's Fat Head. ;-)

hehe... VB has come a long way from the original... they've done away with line
numbers which is/was a huge benefit as you can now name your routines instead
of having to remember which line they started on... inserting code doesn't
trash your line numbering any more, either :)

EV> I bought some books a long time ago on Assembly Language, but I
EV> gave up trying to figure out some of the programs that I had made a
 EV> Disassembler Paper Copy of.

oh... man... yeah... machine decoded ASM is a real buggar to read...

EV> It just made me appreciate how smart Programmers are.

 EV> Oh Yeah, I once found a 5 1.4" floppy with a book for C on the
EV> C=64. I gave up on that too.

i've never done any of the apples or commodores... i did have a TI-99 and a
Timex Sinclair at one point, though...

EV> Programming just looks like "Here We Go Loop-A-Dee Loop" to me.
 EV> ;-)

that's actually not far off the mark for many things... computers are great for
the repetative stuff :)

EV> I'm glad You're still comfortable with Pascal.

EV> I haven't looked at any of the files I've grabbed from the FIDO
 EV> QUIK_BAS echo recently.

EV> Some of the folks in that echo really impressed me in what QBasic
 EV> could do.

these days, it is really nothing more than learning the difference language
syntaxes... after that, it is pretty much all the same stuff... my perl and php
code look very much like my pascal code... even the little bit of C stuff that
i do from time to time looks like pascal
