hummm almost kinda sounds like his experiances with winwhatever higher than w9x
before someone sent him a complete IBM machine with XP or vista installed on it
:P

the main thing is that a LOT of older stuff simply will not work on the newer
OS' and much of that because those developing for the newer OS' simply do not
have that older equipment... ie: parallel port ZIP drives, parallel port
scanners, etc... i'm sitting here with a parallel post 100MB ZIP and a parallel
port scanner attached/chained to it... w2k sees them with no problems but many
*nixes that i've worked with just do not... if i had the time and patience, i'd
fix up the drivers to handle them... unfortunately, i've too many other irons
in the fire and it is simply easier to use out network attached HP 9500 series
unit for scanning, printing and memory card access ;)

i'm coming up from 8.04.4 to 10.04... everything has gone quite well... the
only thing that has given me fits is my genealogy package, phpgedview, which is
the old 4.1.5 2008 version... i've gotten the software updated with no problems
and am now attempting to re-import the gedcoms... if i can only locate where
the 129M restriction is so i can override it (at 99% import no less) then i'll
be a much happoer camper :)
