Yes..  I noticed the default behaviour iTunes.  But I recall that it popped up
a warning before it would proceed with importing and converting.  That aside,
the iTunes CD-jacket maker is a pretty good basic tool to use when a printed
listing is desired.

What other programs was he using for playing his mp3 collection? Wouldn't it be
simpler to stick to just one program anyway?

Ah.... Apple succeeded in clouding the "proprietary" nature of the iPod to your
son.   When I was in the market for an mp3 player, that's when I learned that
iPods used .AAC format.  But it wasn't advertised as an issue.  Later, I
learned that it was possible to re-flash the devices so that they would support
drag and drop as well as mp3 files, but that was only possible in specific
generations of the iPod.  Too complicated for me. I settled with a fine and
much less expensive CreativeLabs MP3 player that supported drag-drop, storage
for *any* type of file, and excellent mp3 features.
