Hello Jeff,

Responding to a post in the WIN95 area:

I thought as much, but I had to explore possibilities...

The "169" address would have given me a class B network -- a PITA to get to
talk with the XPP box. Pretty much useless and I quickly realized that
fact.

Right now, that won't be possible. I tried to run WfW311 and I've got some
kind of file corruption with Windows for Workgroup -- running Defrag or
Speed Disk is messing with Windows. :-((

I hope the router doesn't try to assign the same address to the XPP box --
it's my only Windows box that is connected to the Inet!

"I know everything, but not all at the same time" is my philosophy. I'm
still trying to learn all this stuff and get a better handle on the stuff
that I _think_ I've learned. [g]

DHCP seems to be an issue and it is confusing the H#ll out of me! There is
a DHCP client server on the XPP box (I know because I use my web browser to
activate my SMC router configuration manager and a status screen tells me
how many DHCP clients are running, their IP addresses, their MAC addresses,
and their network names). Now, do I require a DHCP client server on the
Win2K machine as well? It seems to me that there would be a conflict
between the router and two DHCP client servers... ???

I've disabled ZA's ability to run its client software on Windows startup
(for now).

I'll fight with the network and IP addressing problems for another couple
of weeks and if I can't resolve things by then, I'll likely be so
frustrated, go purchase another HDD and do another 'virgin' install of W2K;
it was definitely much easier to set up a "new" network.

           Cheers ... Gerald
