I had a Sanyo CRT tv up until the time I bought the Samsung big screen. I gave
the Sanyo to my Dad and it's still going strong :)

Stores nowadays will do whatever they can to dupe you into buying the latest
and greatest EVEN THOUGH it's nowhere near as good as the old stuff.

Going digital was the worst thing for OTA TV stations. Transmitter power may be
the same, BUT the coverage area is reduced. With the "new and improved digital
signal", it's either there or it's not. There's no in-between like the old
analog signals...where you could watch a snowy picture if that's all you could
get. My Aunt was complaining today about one of the local stations (about 50
air miles away) that is digital and the picture is pixelizing and freezing up
with audio drop outs. I told her there's not alot that can be done about
it...but call the cable company and complain to them.

Also on the transmitter side, it takes more power to push the smaller
wavelength signal (UHF) than it does the lower (like VHF) so in order for them
to get the same coverage area, the stations would have to increase transmitter
power. They're not able to do this because most are already at their maximum
allowed power level.

Just another great example of "just because it's newer, doesn't make it
better." Analog TV is better than digital...at least in my book. I certainly
hope the FCC doesn't force terrestrial radio broadcasters to do digital. That
would be the kiss of death for radio. It's been working well since the 20's...I
say leave it alone :)
