That is right. A HIGH price was paid signal footprint for the
privedledge of higher definition TV.
OF course if one have a 56" flatscreen I guess it is nice.
the undrlying motivation to the conversio nwas MONEY. We are Critically
short of RF spectrum for all the devices out there. the final resuly is
the drving ALL over TV stations out of business. then the politicans
would be able to sel lthe spectrum to the highest bidder.If you recal
Twice they have eliminated potions of hte UHF TV band. Once many years
ago wnen they choped off the top end and in the digital conversion they
took some more of the high end channels. Curentyl the FCC has a mandate
to find 500 Mhz more for use as Broadband Internet access .Their First
IDIOT proposal was Broadband over power lines where low power RF were
used .the IDIOTS even allowed at first the use of Any re spectrum like
cable systems do. IF course they are a closed system and do Not
interfere with other services using the same spoectrum over the air. In
the test cities there was serious interference with over the air users
and evne seriously interfered with public Safety transmissions.

Actually there are digital Radio Station systems in trial and
development for both AM and FM stations.
