Last night I tried to help a Friend with Win7 on his notebook.

The computer started up with a User icon that said it was Locked but
when I clicked on the icon the Desktop appeared.

He is just wanting to write files using Notepad.

I typed Note in the Search box and clicked on Notepad.

Doing that took the computer to a "Extra" screen about Video and some
such Multi-Media stuff.

After failing to see Notepad startup using the Search box we tried START
> Documents and opened a Text File in the listing.

Then I told him to click File >  New   to get a blank Notepad window
where he could start typing what he wanted.

He named that file and saved it to the Desktop.

Now He can double-click on that file from the Desktop to use Notepad to
do His work.

I told him to use Save-As when saving a file he makes.

I have not idea why Win7 wouldn't open Notepad when I clicked on it even
after typing the full name 'notepad' in the Search box, I'd either get
that Multi-Media thingy or something about the WIn7 Library system,
which I have no idea about at all how to use.

My Friends notebook and my Brothers Desktop are the only Win7 PCs I have
touched, and I am rather confused over the magnitude of change MS made
jumping from Vista to Win7.

I'm confortable with XP and even a bit with Vista Home Basic but every
time I am around a Win7 bos my head "Ed's Head" spins.

There is no telling how confusing Win8 is going to be when it is
released to the public.

I hope the Win8 Beta-Testers help MS UN-Geek the OS before it is shipped
out to the GAMMA (Public) testers.

I wonder how many Businesses are still using XP instead of Upgrading
their IT departments to the Newest and Greatest MS has to offer
currently.

I've done the Vista check and the Windows Seven check on my XP box,
IIRC my XP computer isn't at the 100% mark but They Say I could
upgrade to the newer OSs...BUT I WON"T!    ;-)
