It's all part of the specifications for being part of the Portable Apps
platform.  The folks that develop apps for Portable Apps use several
tools to monitor what an app writes to the Windows registry, and does
it's best to remove those traces upon shutdown of whatever Portable App
you might be running.

Because the apps are running off of the portable storage device, *not*
from the host hard drive.  That way, you can carry your own computing
environment with you, and use it on any Windows XP or later system (they
recently discontinued support for Windows 9x in the current "development
path").

Portable Apps is the platform that developers use to create portable
versions of popular open source and freeware programs.  Open Office.org
is one such open source project that can be installed on and run from a
portable storage device like a flash drive or external *USB-powered*
hard drive.  While the Portable Apps platform could run from an external
hard drive that required a power brick to run, that would defeat the
purpose behind "Portable Apps".

Yes, U3 is a similar system.  However, it's a proprietary system, and has
a lot of the baggage associated with proprietary systems.  And, the last
I saw, development on the U3 platform has stalled a bit.

"Now you can carry your favorite computer programs along with all of your

computer. All without leaving any personal data behind."

Exactly.  The standard installation of a Portable Apps, er, App, is
modified so that it can be run from a portable storage device.
