PQ>Hi! Ed,
Hi Paul,

PQ>The 192.168.* class of network addressing is quite common. I used to use it

The Schools IP was of the 169.254.x.x class.

PQ> EV> While I was trying to learn what it was I learned that McAfee had
PQ> EV> become a part of Intel about a year ago.

PQ>Mmm... okay. I don't get excited about McAfee any longer.

I use them because I can use the software Free from my ISP.

As much as I have heard of McAfee NOT being the most perferred Suite,
maybe I should take a look at some sites that show how they 'rank'
amoungst all the other Suites.

---snip---

PQ> EV> Are they anything for me to be Paranoid about? Thanks!

PQ>Only if the thought of having your 'internet travels' being traced &
recorded
PQ>for scientific & commercial purposes flips a switch on your sense of
privacy.
PQ>What you're seeing is the footprint of robots & cookie-type activity.

I know there are no 'Private Lines' on the internet, anyone who has
knowledge can 'look' at anything going on, I just haven't been
interested in aquireing that kind of knowledge.

PQ>The only semi-malicious activity is when Google goes 'data mining' on sites,
PQ>looking for search term result page data. Some of their robots can bring
som
PQ>sites down to their knees, figuratively speaking, for up to an hour.

I wouldn't think that the IP address my ISP gives me each day would be
of interest to Google or any of the other Data Miners.

I have been keeping close watch of the DNS Servers address and it hasn't
changed at all, but every time I turn on the router and modem WW shows
that I am given a new IP address by my ISP.

BTW, one nice thing about the IP address from my ISP is when I connect
to ipdb.at it says that I'm in another city than where I actually live.

My guess is that the ISPs Servers are in that location.

It makes me think that my location is STEALTHed. ;-) ;-)

PQ>Besides the tracking of your travels, there is a lot of -referral- traffic
PQ>between sites going on. You may see a lot of references to Facebook, Tweet
&
PQ>Blog sites that seem to have no relationship with the browsing that you're
PQ>doing but the sites are sharing data about who (your cookie history), what
PQ>(with type of browser) and where (from, geographically), users are visiting
PQ>them. Also, a lot of graphics are being shared between sites in order to
PQ>'flesh out' their web pages.

Yep, I suppose that is because most pages now show a link for the Social
Networking Sites that I could click on if I desired to, I don't because
I get enough Social Networking through talking to folks through a BBS
connection. .... ..

PQ>For example: just now, I have opened a story about the U.S. $640m Lottery
fro
PQ>an RSS feed of BBS World, and I see connections automatically started to
PQ>~googlesyndication.com & ~cloudfront.net - why? I don't know & really don't
PQ>care. Oh, now they're gone. So they got whatever data they needed.[shrug]
PQ>what. :)

PQ>When I was paranoid about them, I used to use "netstat -tnp" from the
(linux)
PQ>command-line. I believe there is a similar command in the latest Windows,
PQ>though there may be differences with the arguments after the dash sysmbol.
:

Thanks for the comments, keep them coming.

I think XP has a netstat command I can use from a CMD prompt.
I will go add that to my ROUNDTUIT list. <GRIN>

Yes, XP has a netstat command, I just typed netstat/? at a CMD prompt
and saw the help description for it. Thanks again.
