Mark,

Yes, I did. I looked at the page again on May 17th and noticed metion of
updating the router firmware.

So on the morning of May 18th (friday) I began updating the Linksys
router Jay Emrie sent to me, since the router had the default firmware
on it.

I made screen copies of the settings in each page of the router so I
could refer back to them after the firmware Update.

I had downloaded the firmware update a long time ago but hadn't
installed it because the BEFSX41 manual.pdf mentioned not to do it
unless there was a problem.

After a couple of tries that didn't take, I decided to use the TFTP
program I got from Linksys/Cisco when I got the firmware update .bin
file.

I had success using the TFTP file and now had the version 1.52.16
Build 004 Feb 06 2009 firmware on the router.

At first look I noticed all the settings were scattered over different
pages than what the images of the default settings were.

I entered the old settings where I could find entries for them in the
new version.

When I tried using Firefox, nothing worked.

Me being a experimenter/hobbyist I tried to figure out what had happened
and what I needed to do to get my DSL account working again.

Friday afternoon, I still hadn't been able to get the router and
dsl modem talking to each other, and I had to leave the house for a
while, so I shut everything down.

While we were out my wife suggested that I call AT&T DSL Tech Support
when we got back home, but I told her I wanted to try to figure it out
by myself and if I couldn't I would call AT&T for help.

Sunday evening I made the call.

The Technician talked me through trying a few things that didn't work
for me, so he asked if I would allow him to put a Remote Session program
on my XP box, which I allowed.

What I found out was that the Password entry that I entered in the box
on the Settings page wasn't the correct one.

I had entered my email password in the box, and because I did that I had
erased the "NETWORK" password.

Mark, I can almost guess that your eyebrows raised after reading about
what I did.

If Jeff Guerdat was reading the echo now he would have had a belly
laugh at my fooling around with this here computer stuff.

The Technician entered the network password in the router settings page
and saved the settings, and then had me try out checking my email and
going to a web site or two to see if everything was working as it
should, and it was.

He also told me to write down the Network password in case I ever needed
it, so I did.

I try to learn what I can about my computers, so while I was
experiencing the "Internet Outage", I looked through a lot of the
messages that I had saved to see if I could learn anything from them
that would help me.

I also read a lot of pages in XPs Help & Support.

But in the end Tech Support was the answer because I turned a simple job
into a problem. <GRIN>

At least now if I have any questions, I can ask them here.
