EV> When I got a email from QRZ.COM about a password I got all alarmed
EV> and posted the same message in all 5 of the Ham echos my BBS
EV> carries, the 3 FIDO echos were Ham Radio, LS_ARRL and AMT_Radio,
EV> the other two were GT Power GT_HAMRADIO and MicroNet MN_CHATTER.

i only recognise "LS_ARRL"... i suspect that "AMT_Radio" may be
"AMATEUR_RADIO"... i'm not sure about "Ham Radio"... that could be "HAM" or one
of the other HAM radio related echos...

EV> A week later I read a message that LS_ARRL was for Bulletins and
EV> Newsletters and not for general messgaes so I haven't posted any
 EV> messages there since then.

yeah, my friend and downlink richard webb is the moderator of LS_ARRL now... he
resurrected it from the dead... my system posts the arnewsline newsletter in
there each week when it is received... it also posts it via netmail and email
to several other folks who are interested in the completely ASCII version
instead of one filled with HTML and MIME64 characters and such...

EV> I looked but I haven't seen any saved messages in the Ham Radio
EV> echo for a long time in my savetxt directory so I think I am not
 EV> subscribed to it.

yeah, i'd need to know the actual echotag of that area to know what area really
is... roy witt is the moderator of HAM...

EV> I will Join it again today and see if that is where Holger gets his
 EV> Ham Radio messages at.
EV> I used the AMT Radio echo to place the message in for him to read.

EV> An echo is an echo is an echo, isn't it???? DUH :-(

you'd think so but the echotag is the only real way to determine what echo one
is in... the sysops can make any descriptive text for an area they want which
is why you might see one thing on one bbs and another for the same area on
another bbs...

FWIW: a quick scan of the last echolist i received shows the following ham
radio related areas...

* AMATEUR_RADIO   Amateur Radio
DRAKE Discussions concerning R. L. Drake Communications Equip
* EMERGCOM emergency and disaster communications by radio
HAM-SALE Sales of Amateur Radio Equipment
HAM_TECH Amateur (HAM) Radio TECHnical Conference
* LS_ARRL         ham radio bulletins/news
  QRP Amateur Radio Low Power
  RTTY Radio Teletype

the *'s indicate the ones i know are alive... the others may just be place
holders in the echolist so their tags are not used by someone else... no clue
if those echos exist any more or not...

if you notice how long the description is for DRAKE, you can easily understand
why it may be chopped off on some systems... and you can also see where the
chopped off part might be the imporatant part if the systems area description
field is only 25 or 30 characters long ;) if DRAKE were my echo, i'd have the
description like a bikini... short and to the point

   eg: Drake radio talk

if anyone needs/wants to know more, they can read the rules or the full
echolist description ;)
