HG>>In a message dated 11-27-12, Ed Vance said to Holger Granholm:

HG>GM Ed,

HG>HG>Hi Ed and Jean,

HG>EV>My 486 was Born and Bred long before PCI happened.

HG>OK.

HG>EV>The 4c has SCSI connectors on it and HP included a ISA Card that
  >EV>plugs into a 8-bit ISA slot.

HG>It's probably an Adaptec SCSI card sans built-in BIOS.

HG>EV>I haven't the slightest idea if it is a HP card Dedicated to use
  >EV>only with their 4c scanner, or if any SCSI device can be
  >EV>connected to it.

Holger,

I haven't opened the 486 box yet but I wouldn't know who HP contracted
with to build their SCSI-2 card.

HG>It will work with any SCSI appliance that you connect to it.

In the HP 4c Scanner users guide HP doesn't guarantee that it would work
with any other SCSI devices.

Their SCSI-2 card AFAICT only works with a device the uses Port #2,
That is how the 4c was set to right out of the box.

  >it yourself by going to the home page of Adaptec or any other manufac-
  >turer of the card you've got. Remember "Google is your friend"!

I usually ask ASK.
Just recently I learned a Search Engine I used in 1996-1995, SEARCH.COM
can still be found on the internet.
Another Search Engine I used a lot back then was ALTA-VISTA.

HG>EV>WIth Tom mentioning the SCSI SyQuest EZFlyer 230 the other day,
  >EV>I have been wondering if the HP 8-bit ISA card could be used with
  >EV>that drive?

HG>I believe it can. That i just one of the simple appliances that can be
  >connected to such a card. You will of course need a cable with i guess
  >a 50-pole Centronics plug at the expansion card and another at the gear
  >end or an adapter between the large (old) and the smaller (new model)
  >depending on what type it will be connected to.

I called Pacific Data's Toll Free phone number and learned they only had
the Drive.

As far as SCSI Cables go, I can get them locally, and I think I could
get the drivers for the drive at a web site I found that has SyQuest
Drivers.

Some time soon I will go visit the Repair Shop and see if my EZ135 can
be fixed by him,

I already made a CD-R with everything on the 3-1/2" Floppy Disks that
were included with the Drive for DOS/Windows 3.1, OS/2 and NT.

I did that since Floppy Drives aren't the NORM now a days, even though
I'm real sure the guy has a computer with both size Floppy Drives in his
shop.

I put the data from each FD in a seperate Directory on the CD if it was
needed.

If the drive can't be repaired locally I have already talked to
Pacific Data about what they charge to repair the EZ135 Drive,
they said $90 (US) if they can fix it for me, and No Charge if they
can't.

All I would be paying is Shipping both ways. That's Fair Enuf.

HG>EV>Any Ideas, Anyone????????? Thanks!

HG>Yeah, lots of them, see above. I have always since the MFM-days used
  >SCSI

HG>EV>Of course I would need the floppy disks for the EXFlyer 230 to
  >EV>install it if the ISA card will accept a different device
  >EV>connected to it.

HG>If the disks are the old 5.25" floppies they may have died. The 3.5"
  >ones prevail a bit longer.

As I wrote above the disks are 3.5" and still work.

Next Question Please? <GRIN>
