 There are two ways to manage the wireless settings with XP.  You can
 either allow the OS to do it, or you can use the utility provided
 with the wireless hardware.  You're lack of ability to "see" the
 settings for encryption, etc., going into the OS connection properties,
 indicates that you have not selected XP to manage the wireless.
 XP "thinks" that you are using the wireless utility for this.

 When you enable the OS to manage the wireless, you have the option
 of entering in your encryption key.

 You really should try comparing the wireless utility and the OS
 manager, and see which you prefer.  The are typically some minor
 differences between the options supported, and ease of use.

 As Jeff G pointed out previously in a discussion that we had about
 this, re-establishing the connection coming out of standby with one
 vs. the other, is an example.

 Correct.  Although, you can also encrypt data on your system, even
 if it's not connected to an intranet or internet.  But that's another
 topic.  Wireless encryption is recommended.
