Hello Jay!


I can understand Ed's concern with the Expense
of Time and Money to continue running a Public BBS..

I ran "The Lounge Lizard's Retreat BBS" for 18 years or so
from the late 1970's until I took it down in the late 1990's

Long before The Public Access to the Internet and the
Fidonet Access via 19K baud Satelite feed..

for 10 years or more my access to Fidonet Mail and Files
was via A Long Distance phone line
and my Phone bill was over $400.00 per month just to
bring in the Mail topics and File areas and Door Games that
My 1200 users wanted..

Many of my Callers were calling from all over the World..

BTW: I never charged a Dime for Access to my BBS,

I bore the entire Expense; because That was my Hobby,
Some people spend their money on Golf, Fishing, Boats,
Airplanes, Model Cards/Planes, Poker etc..

Some Hobby's are more expensive that others...

When Fidonet Access Via Satellite Feed came available..
I spent the $1000.00 plus to setup my private Satellite
Dish and Transponder in the late 1980's that significantly
reduced my Long distance Telephone Bill..

But when Public Access to the Internet started becoming more
available... my BBS callers via phone line dropped to a
few callers per week and the hastle of changing to a NEW
BBS Software that could handle the Internet Calls and
converting all my Menu's and files to the New Format took
the fun out of Running a BBS for me and I shut the whole
thing down and just ran a Web Server and Web Page..
