Ärende: Mac vs PC prices

I don't want to get into the whole Apple vs Windows set of issues, but
there's been some discussion here of what some consider Apple's high-end
pricing. I've pointed out that it's important to compare (as it were)
apples and oranges.

An interesting example came my way this afternoon in an advertising email
from Ziff Davis-- advertising PCs from MPC. One of them caught my eye...
it was called the Client Pro 414 All in One. Stylish, with the computer
'guts' built into a 17" LCD display, a concept similar to Apple's iMac
G5. You can see the system and its specs at:

The base price is $1999. (I'm assuming that US$); Apple's base pricing
for an iMac G5 is US$1299. Both systems are built around a 17" LCD, and
obviously use different CPUs, so it's hard to compare the 2.8 GHz P4 in the MPC
with the 1.8 GHz G5 in the iMac.

But the $1999 comes with 256 MB of RAM, a 40 GB hard drive, and a 24x CD
drive. The $1299 iMac comes with 512 MB of RAM, 160 GB hard drive, and a
combo CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive. Moreover, the iMac has 802.11g and bluetooth
included.
Configure the MPC to match the iMac in these regards (though bluetooth isn't
available), and the MPC's price
jumps to US$2207 (that's after deducting $99 to replace the MPC's MS Office
with MS
Works-- the iMac comes with AppleWorks).

And of course that's assuming that WinXP (complete with virus and spyware
issues) is of equal value and productivity to Mac OS X... but in this
particular computer niche, the Mac is nearly US$1000 cheaper than the
comparable PC.
