Ärende: network failure.

yes, it is called the Link Light... it lights to show that there is a live link
on the network... there is generally also a second led that is the Activity
Light and blinks when there is traffic on the network wire connected to that
card...

EMF can be induced into wire that is not powered... i can't repeat the why's
and wherefore's but my self run telco line (750' aerial strung) used to get
hits quite a bit and take out one of my modems but not the other... this line
is a two pair line with a modem on each pair... the reason that one was taken
out and not the other had to do with the actual length of the copper within the
line. since they are twisted, the copper is longer than the actual line
length... the fix, once i found out the possible problem, was to add a short
section of line to the pair that kept taking equipment out...

i don't have any idea if this will help you at all but i have provided it in an
effort to help you understand possibly why what happened happened...
