Thanks. I ran chkdsk /f from the command prompt. It ran chkdsk on restart. 
There were 3 stages. The computer rebooted before I could read the results. 
Hoe do I know if there was a problem or not and did windows fix it. Is there a
file that I could read? 

Also, I know if I rt-click the drive > choose properties > tools, there is an 
error checking button. Is this the same as running chkdsk /f from a command 
prompt or is it different? Does it matter which one I run?
