I feel pretty much the same as you about Dan Browns writing, though I
must admit that for pure popcorn entertainment they can be quite OK.
Digital Fortress is so full of computer related faults that you have to
completely disengage whatever hemisphere of the brain that takes care
of logical thinking.

Furthermore, his description of Seville in Spain in that same book is
an insult to the Spanish welfare system and Spaniards in general.

Have you seen copycat? That movie is amazing. They killer manages to
plant a virus in a .mov file and igourney Weaver responds to an
anonymous email :-)

What about Swordfish? Hugh Jackman is supposedly writing a "worm" for
John Travolta, but he is obviously more busy doing a simple 3D
animation of a worm-looking creature. I perfectly understand that a
texteditor with some code is not as visually interesting as an actual
animation, but to actually have a worm drawn on the screen was just
silly.

Cudos to Matrix Reloaded, where Trinity hacks into the power station by
using an actual port scanner and then using a CRC32 exploit on the SSH1
server to get in. Nobody notice but a few geeks, but it is a nice
detail.
