Well, what about all the nonsense this week over that guerilla-marketing 
stunt attempted by the Cartoon Network?  Apparently, when they found the 
deadly Lite-Brites in question <g>, Boston went berserk, and Philadelphia 
ignored them.  I'm not sure which reaction is more disturbing.  But I think 
it firmly establishes that _context_ is important.  In this case, it was a 
matter of bad timing (everyone is in that heightened agitation we call "a 
post-9/11 world"), and bad placement (the put odd, amateurish-looking wired 
devices on stanchions holding up overpasses -- in a city that had had one of 
their major highways partially collapse, killing a driver, not too long ago). 
 I think Cartoon Network could have chosen their methods better.  Guerilla 
marketing is kind of silly, anyway, for a huge corporate conglomerate that 
has a proper advertising budget.

Anyway, the point being, I think that if someone _did_ start leaving Qurans 
around for people to read in connection with the BookCrossing scheme, you 
might find people reticent to pick them up, and in some cases, bomb squads 
called to remove them.  Probably not so much panic with other books, but it 
depends where they're left, who finds them, and what recently happened in 
that locale.
