I remember seeing Dr. Leon Lederman on some talk show about 30 years ago 
(did I say 30 years ago?!). He ran the Batavia nuclear accelerator in Il 
(and he was going to run the super collider until that was killed).  He was 
speaking on a number of  scientific topics in general when the topic of an 
"eventual returning ice age" came up.  That had been reported back then in 
the newspapers.  People were asking him a lot of questions on how they 
should prepare for it and if it meant we were all doomed.  Many people in 
the audience were becoming quite alarmed.

To his credit, after trying to explain the time frame at which these things 
occur at least three times he eventually just sighed, looked at the audience 
and said something along the lines of  "Don't worry about it."
