My biggest gripe about Larry is his lack of respect for his fellow writers
and his mistreatment of his wife. In '87, JMS was on a panel at MidSouthCon,
and Larry was bitching about how Joe wasn't a real writer, he wrote for
television, so he shouldn't be in there with people who wrote books. Joe was
polite about it, and when Larry shut up, the panel went on with little
further incident.

Add to that Larry's habit of fooling around on Marilyn, and I think you can
see why he's not too high on my list of favorite people. Me, if I had a wife
whose nickname was Fuzzy Pink, I'd hang onto her. At this pont I figure that
the main reason she stays with his trifling ass is because he's worth
millions of bucks, and she'll get all of it when he dies. There's also the
possibility, however faint, that she actually still loves him. But if I were
nuzzling and fondling another woman in front of my wife, the first thing
she'd do would be to grab something and belt me upside the head with it.
Marilyn just shrugs it off. Sooner or later, though, she's gonna get tired
of his fei hua,. and she'll either walk or have him killed.

In 1990, I made the humonguous mistake of introducing my friend Karen to
another friend, Bob Asprin. I'd known Bob for years, and knew his
predeliction for grabbing ass at cons. I also knew he had a deal with his
wife, Lynn Abbey, that what he did on the road was okay, but the moment one
of his chippies showed up on their doorstep, he'd had it. A year later,
Karen showed up on his doorstep in Ann Arbor, and Lynn answered the door.
Bob had had it. If I'm right, Bob and Lynn had a joint-rights deal, so that
anything he writes under his own name, she gets half of. Which would explain
why everything he's written since about 1993 is a joint byline with someone
else, be it Peter Heck, Linda Evans, or whoever. On top of which, he moved
as far from Lynn as he could get while still staying in the lower 48; he's
in New Orleans, she's in Michigan.

Karen left her hsband and her four-year-old son and moved to Texas, where
she changed her name and started hanging out with vampire wannabees.

Ain't fannish marriages fun?
