Well, I'm reasonably sure there was more than a little tongue-in-cheek going 
on there, a bit of a poke at people who appeal to their deity of choice for 
stupid (or mean) stuff, all the while maintaining the illusion that they are 
"good (insert religion of choice here)."  Howard, at his absolute best, was 
good at multilayered irreverent stuff like that.  Then it became all about 
naked women (the appeal of which to a radio audience totally eludes me), 
abuse of seemingly willing physically and emotionally challenged people, and 
scatological humor, and he lost me.
