Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. The entire box likely wasn't for JMS to
sign, but holds the comics they wanted signed by various comics folks during
the
con.

Then those cons were badly run. Most times if there are time constraints, it's
up to the con to cut off the line at a point where the celeb will need to
leave.
More often than not, JMS has remained until the line is entirely gone, even
those he made go through again because of the number if items they had.
Naturally, this depends on the amount of time he's got available.

Perhaps, but put yourself in their place, too. Many of them have been fans
since "The Real Ghostbusters" or before and they want to express their
admiration. This may be the only shot they'll ever have. The time they have
to
do that is dictated by how long JMS takes to sign whatever they've brought.
Not
that he hurries people, that's just kind of the way things are.

There's a difference in the interraction I've seen between fans with media
stars
and fans with writers or artists. For the actors, people will express their
admiration and sometimes recount a favorite scene or show. For the writers and
artists, people are trying to express what that person's work has meant to them
on a personal and emotional level. There's an attempt at communication that's
far deeper but still needs to be expressed under a certain amount of pressure.
For a lot of them, the personal contact is much more meaningful than the items
signed except that the items they choose may be emblematic of the way the work
has touched them.
