OTOH, we were generally stocked with the basics and beyond most of the
time. I was glad I had the extra freezer space; now I realise how much I
used it because we still don't have anything but the fridge freezer.

I know; that's why I tried to keep several meal's worth of home made
sauce in the freezer, usually some chili and something else I'd done a
in larger batch with the intent of freezing extra so we could do fast
meals.

Quicksilver Eddie Aikau Memorial Invitational Surfing Tournament.  Eddie
was a lifeguard, surfing instructor,etc and was on one of the initial
voyages of the Hukulea when it overturned in, I think, 1976.  He said
he'd swim for help--all the rest of the crew was rescued but Eddie had
vanished.  The saying was "Eddie would go" (he'd made several rescues
under less than ideal conditions); well, Eddie went and lost his life in
doing so.  The tournament is only run if waves are at least 30'.

A lot of those are still run every year.

I will, trying to get over this post surgery set back.  Something Steve
found on the internet said this can last 3-7 days so I'm toughing it
out.
