That was true of the original rules; it's some of the modern add-ons that
get me.  Kosher butchery and not eating the lungs were just the smart way
to go.  Salting the meat killed bacteria.

Safe yes, kosher no.  The kangaroos wouldn't be Kosher since they don't
have cloven hooves and chew cud.

Eggs are kosher by definition, apparently.  Eggs with blood spots in them
have to be tossed; I'd imagine that would rule out embryonic chicks too.

Ahh - certification needed then, unless one does one's own processing in a
kosher kitchen or cooking area.
