Okay, I took that off, but it only is supposed to apply when
error reports and info requests are sent to Zone Labs. Which
brings me to the point of: what kind of big brother program
keeps track of this stuff anyway? Even Microsoft doesn't do it.

Maybe: but many of the problems occur when I'm off the Internet
altogether, and ZA wants to scrutinize everything that my
programs are doing. So there's this keyboard delay, and screen
refresh delay, and HD access delay, and what's the good of it
when it thinks that (say) a BASIC program that Greg Mayman wrote
is a virus?

Anyway, I've done the tweaks that you and others have suggested
and am confident that I will still deinstall the thing in 90 days.

The sad thing is that the program worked just as I wanted it to
until I installed an update a year or so ago.

Thanks for this; but when I get the new computer up and running
(it's back at the shop - tech support diagnosed a motherboard
failure) I'll probably do frequent restores to a known point
and not bother with much firewalling beyond what XP SP2 already
has. The ZA performance hit is too great.

Ricotta terrine with marinated peppers
cat: starter
servings: 6

2 red bell peppers
2 yellow or orange bell peppers
8 leaves gelatin
2 garlic cloves
1 bn basil
2 Tb thyme honey
600 g ricotta
fleur de sel
fresh ground pepper
 
Grill the peppers. Remove the skins. Halve and core
them. Cut into strips and drain on absorbent paper.

Soften the gelatin in a bowl of cold water. Drain and
let melt in a bit of hot water in a double boiler or
in the microwave.

Peel and crush the garlic.

Rinse, dry, destem, and julienne the basil.

Put the ricotta into two bowls: in one, combine with the
honey, basil, and  garlic. Add half the melted gelatine and
mix with a spatula. Mix the rest of the gelatin into the
other bowl of ricotta.

Line a cake pan with plastic wrap. In the bottom, strew some
pepper strips and season with salt and pepper. Spread a layer
of plain rocotta over, then add some more pepper strips.
Season. Add a layer of the herbed ricotta. Continue thus,
alternating the cheeses and the pepper strips. Cover all with
plastic wrap and chill at least 5 hr in the fridge.

Note: the garlic is optional; you can add some thyme or
hot pepper. You can substitute minced chives for the basil.

Wine recommendation: a white Collioure or a Bandol rose,
