*** Quoting Ruth Hanschka from a message to Carol Shenkenberger ***

RH> Hey, it beats being on your feet doing the cooking. (sorta)
CS> Ah but we like cooking, so that for us is painless normally.
RH>
RH> But since when is anyone in here normal?

Oh my! Never say 'Normal' here! We be wierd!

CS> True. Sorry about that if it made you feel bad today. Our sidewalks
CS> btw are not like wide USA ones. They are normally 2ft wide at most.
RH>
RH> I normally feel mediocre, and I never enjoyed walking any distance any
RH>

Well, I'm not back to normal yet, but doing ok. I could walk to Tonoo Market
but not carry a load back very well yet. I'd have to get a cab.

CS> Yup. It's a 1994 car and very gently used. USA price would not be
CS> less than 3,000$ at a dealer. Umm, translating KM to M, about
CS> 30,000m on it. The buyer wasso delighted, he tossed me an extra 100$
CS> so now got 600$ for it.
RH>
RH> Now that's a buyer! On the other hand, they're paying 20% of the blue
RH> book on it.

True but cars go for cheap here. Only a fool pays more than 2,000$ for one
here unless it's a truely special one. It costs an average of 1,000$ a year
for the Japanese road inspection (much of that is taxes as thats how they load
the road tax things here, on the drivers with their cars). The sold car was
good for 14 more months so was valued at 1500$ but too many new folks here
influx dont lnow this so I had to get what I could. To leave without seling
the car, costs you 500$ to pay to have it junked (or sold at the junk yard and
no, you don't get the money they sell it for, just pay 500$ and they sell it).

Buyers market <g>.

CS> My experince witht hem is years ago, but I found they were pretty
CS> much small ovens so crisped things as well as an oven would. Not
CS> better or worse really.
RH>
RH> For short cooking times they do fine, and they're great for reheating p
RH> Anything that requires cooking for more than 20 minutes probably shoul
RH> go in a regular oven.

Sounds right for a toaster oven. We'll decide for sure when we get to Norfolk.
I am not thinking of the big units, but the small ones, suitable for 2
burritos and not much more. I have a gas oven for other things.

RH> well. My unconventional ingredient, to put it on topic, was the cerea
RH> I used to make the crust. Oatmeal Crisp with Almonds. It was an 11-i
RH> pan (I had a three-pound tub of ricotta to use up) so I used about hal
RH> the bag, crunched up inside plastic bags with my trusty rolling pin.
RH> I'd post the recipe for the cheesecake, but I did it by feel. Three p
RH> of ricotta, four eggs, a dollop of half and half, a cup of sugar, and
RH> "some" almond and vanilla extracts along with a good shake of salt. T
RH> crust was the cereal mixed with half a stick of butter. It tasted a l
RH> eggy to me, but the whole thing vanished in about ten minutes. I took
RH> it with me to the coffeehouse I help with one day a month and ... swis
RH> Bye-bye ricotta.

Hehe your own version of the flock attack I see!

It was hot today and the kids wandered off to sit sultry in the playground then
tonight as it cooled off, they started running around. Charlotte helped us use
up some of the 10yen coins (the drink machines tsake them, think of a dime and
you got it except for the size is a little bigger than a quarter) and we
donated drinks this time. Apple juice, cold green tea, and water versions.

                                       xxcarol
