Yeah ... you're the one who pulled out the 36% figure, and I was
expressing dismay at that. If you'd said anything less than 30 I
probably wouldn't have batted an eyelash. Okay, that level of
poundage doesn't have to mean that a person is ineffective - we
have some folks here who are much bigger than I but also much
stronger - but it does come with costs that I would think
inappropriate for the military: slower response time, less
adaptability to climate, and miscellaneous health issues.

The density test is probably the most accurate (water displacement,
as invented by Archimedes (aka Dr. Eureka)), followed by the height/
weight/girth in several places test (which is where I got my 18%),
with plain height/weight being the least representative.

We all have weaknesses. I'm willing to guess that some folks
who have a bigger BMI or fat percentage than I - and not just
football players, ordinary people too - can probably outrun me
in anything longer than a 50 yard dash. When I was tested for
this President's Physical Fitness thing I came in very close
to the optimal nationwide for the 10 yard dash but was well
below average for 50 yards. I don't think I was able to
complete 100 or 220 yards or whatever the longest test was.

As my build is about as average as you can get, most tests
should come up pretty equally for me. I've not done the
water immersion, but the BMI, which is a sort of substitute
for it, has me at 27.1, or 0.25% above normal, which is
about right.

Although I've heard stories of troublesome (in any number of
ways) personnel being shuttled around in every military,
religious, or corporate entity, historical as well as
contemporary, I still don't think that solving one's problems
by passing them on is a good or an honorable thing.

Chili-Sweet Potato Fries with Roast Corn

Serves: 6

2 ears roasted corn - strip corn kernels from ears
6 c red sweet potatoes sliced in 1/4" slices
4 green onions, chopped
1/2 c melted butter
2 ts chopped garlic
1 ts mild red Chimayo or Hatch chili powder

Combine everything on cookie sheet. Toss together as you
would a salad, put on cookie sheet. Put into a 350F oven.
Cook until soft and turning brown.
