Ärende: Hawaiian BBQ
====================
Howdy Ruth!
->
-> -> Hold on; it'll be open before you know it. Hopefully there will be
-> -> enough business to sustain it too. And, I'm sure you will give us a
-> -> write up when you do go there.
->
-> HN> It is just upstairs (two floors) above my workspace so if they ever
do
-> HN> (seems like they are working on "Hawaiian" time) get it open it
will
-> HN> be convenient for me! There's also a German place up there and it
used
->
-> Have they got a menu posted yet?
->
Nope, but when I went by there today there was someone inside
working...that's a good sign!

-> HN> to be really (REALLY) good...it was run by two German ladies (wives
of
-> HN> retired Army guys) who really knew what they were doing! Then they
got
->
-> That would have been a good place to visit.
->
-> HN> tired of all the work and sold it to another lady and her
-> HN> daughter...neither of them are 1/4 th the cook that the other
ladies
-> HN> were...so it has declined in both quality and volume of customers.
Sad
-> HN> because while it was a tiny place the food was top notch, and it
was a
-> HN> good source of comfort food for Annie who has German roots.
->
-> It is sad; you really need both a good business head and a good cook to
-> make a place work. If the food is good, people will come but if the
-> food isn't so great, it'll be evedent by the lack of customers, no
-> matter how business smart the owners are.
->
It's sad indeed, the food was top rate, Saubraten one week (on Saturdays
only) and Roladin(sp?) the next week and great items on the rest of the
menu...I usually got the Jaegerschnitzel, oh was that good!! AND they had
good German Desserts as well!

-> We're headed up to eastern NC this week end; I already told Steve I want
-> to eat at Moore's BBQ in New Bern and T&W Oyster Bar in Cape Carteret.
-> Other meals can be whatevers but it's been over 22 years since I've been
-> to either place and I"ve got to see if they've maintained quality in
-> that time. (G)
->
Gonna stop at South of the Border??(grin)

-> -> No but I understand Seattle has a good sized Hawiian population.
->  HN> ->
-> HN> Actually Tacoma has a good sized Hawaiian population...Most of them
-> HN> are students at University of Puget Sound (Used to be a Methodist
-> HN> affiliated College) but we still don't have many "hawaiian" places
to
->
-> More than we've got out here. (G)
->
We have a pretty big (and growing) Samoan population as well.

-> -> HN> I do the same, but try to make the plating as pleasing as I
->
-> -> Depends on what the meal is. Yesterday we grilled some lamb (forget
the
-> -> cut but it was thin like steak), served it with kasha--quick cooking
for
-> -> after church and nuked some frozen broccoli. The broccoli added much
-> -> needed color to the plates.
->
-> HN> A good "harvest" time meal! Last night we went to the end of season
->
-> The kasha and lamb were good the 2nd time around with cukes & onion in
-> vinegar as a side.
->
->  HN> year...the
-> HN> Chicken in dijon sauce was just so so, the cheese tortellini never
-> HN> appeared (seems the two head chefs had a tiff and one walked out),
and
-> HN> the roasted root vegetables were barely roasted and had almost no
-> HN> caramelizing going for them, the seasoned rice was horrid, but the
->
-> That doesn't sound very appealing. Must be the chef in charge of those
-> left, leaving........
->
->
->  HN> desserts were
-> HN> INCREDIBLE!!!! Chocolate mousse with something crunchy in it and
-> HN> shavings of bittersweet chocolate and whipped cream (fresh) on top,
-> HN> and a raspberry, strawberry with blueberries compote to put on top
of
->  HN> it...and some
-> HN> chocolate cookies that were halfway between brownies and fudge they
->
-> .........................the dessert guy. I'm sitting here drooling at
-> the offerings.
->
Oh yeah! (grin) Right next to the desserts was the coffee and so all my
co-workers and I sat there and ate chocolate mousse and drank coffee...the
sound system was malfunctioning so when the big corporate guys were making
speeches it was quiet back where we were...so we just had more coffee and
mousse! A GREAT time was had by all !

->
-> HN> were so rich! Silly folks had my team seated right by the desserts
-> HN> too! we all had one small plate of "dinner" and then several
refills
-> HN> on the mousse! It was the best mousse I've ever had!
->
-> And nobody was the wiser. (G)
->
Oh they knew...but happily they had more mousse back there than we could
eat so there was plenty for all!
->
-> -> HN> I LOVE the dark rich chocolate with chile's in it! Has Steve
tried
-> -> HN> make hot chocolate with chiles in it? OH BOOY!
->
-> -> No, he hasn't. I suspect he will consider it now that the weather is
-> -> beginning to cool off a bit. He ate his pb cups today and thought
them
-> -> to be very good.
->
-> HN> I'll be making some Ibarra mexican hot chocolate this weekend, it's
-> HN> gonna be cold and wet..good time for stews and hot chocolate!
->
-> I'm hoping for sunny weather this week end, at least in NC. On our way
-> over to the clinic a couple of hours ago, the radio station local
-> weather forcaster mentioned scattered showers. It's been coming down at
-> pretty steady pace, increasing over the morning and early afternoon.
-> Longest "shower" I've seen in a while. (G)
->
Today is the warmest sunniest day of the last couple of weeks...it's 4:45pm
and it's 60 degrees out...and tomorrow the bad weather returns! Made
porkchops and mushrooms in a dijon cream sauce last night, very hearty and
it sure hit the spot...we'll have the leftovers from that tonight!
chat with you soon
have a good trip to NC
