It is true that it is not a New England Chowder. But, it hits on all the 
other points for CHOWDER. Which it is.

CHOWDER

A thick, chunky seafood soup, of which clam chowder is the most well 
known. The name comes from the French chaudière, a caldron in which 
fishermen made their stews fresh from the sea. New England-style chowder 
is made with milk or cream, Manhattan-style with tomatoes. Chowder can 
contain any of several varieties of seafood and vegetables. The term is 
also used to describe any thick, rich soup containing chunks of food 
(for instance, corn chowder).

Please note, even though it grates your Yankee sensibilities, "Chowder 
can contain any of several varieties of seafood and vegetables." Which 
means that tomatoes CAN be in chowder.

Just, as a sop to the tender psyches of New Englanders, we then call it 
Manhattan-style clam chowder. Especially when it is made in a "French 
chaudière, a caldron in which fishermen made their stews". Even if we 
use Doxsee canned, minced clams and bottled clam juice.

I just don't understand (and never have) why people get their panties in 
a wad over stuff like this. It's an almost religious fanaticism. The 
sort of thing that leads to wars, jihads and crusades because not 
everyone thinks or worships as someone else.

      Title: Teriyaki-Glazed Halibut With Cucumber Noodles
 Categories: Emeril, Seafood
      Yield: 4 servings
 
    1/3 c  Mirin or rice wine
    1/2 c  Soy sauce
      1 tb Sugar
      2 ts Minced ginger root
      1 ts Minced garlic
        pn Cayenne
      4    (5 to 6-oz) halibut filets
    1/4 c  Black & White sesame seeds
      2 tb Vegetable oil
           Minced green onions, as
           - Garnish

MMMMM----------------------CUCUMBER NOODLES---------------------------
      2 lg Cucumbers, peeled, halved
           Lengthwise, and seeded
      1 lg Carrot, peeled, in thin
           - matchsticks, 2" long
    1/4 c  Rice wine vinegar
    1/4 c  Chopped green onions
      2 ts Minced ginger root
      1 ts Asian sesame oil
      1 ts Sugar
    1/2 ts Red pepper flakes
    1/2 ts Salt
 
  With a mandoline or sharp vegetable peeler, cut the cucumbers
  lengthwise into thin ribbons that look like noodles. Combine the
  cucumbers in a large bowl with the remaining ingredients and toss
  well. Refrigerate until chilled, about 1 hour (but not longer so the
  cucumbers do not get soggy).
  
  Yield: 4 servings
  
  Combine the mirin, soy sauce, sugar, ginger, garlic, and cayenne in a
  small saucepan and bring to a boil. Lower heat and simmer until
  reduced a thick glaze, 5 to 6 minutes. Remove from the heat.
  
  Set the halibut filets on a baking dish and sprinkle with cayenne.
  Paint on both sides with the glaze. Let marinate for 15 minutes.
  
  Bring the glaze back to a boil and boil for 5 minutes. Remove from
  heat and keep warm.
  
  Place the sesame seeds in a dish and dip the filets onto the seeds,
  pressing lightly to coat each side with about 1 teaspoon of seeds.
  
  Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the filets
  and cook until browned and just done, 3 to 4 minutes per side. Remove
  from the pan to 4 serving plates. Garnish with the green onions and
  brush with any remaining glaze. Serve with the Cucumber Noodles.
  
  Yield: 4 servings
