Grin, I was sure you mailed me something once!  Yes, mailers flew with both
Ruth's on a semi-regular basis.  I never did get to that final 'gift packet'
idea to send out odd bits to any before we left.

Found the bento box just an hour ago.  We are making up a bento lunch for 
Charlotte for tomorrow.  Contents so far are:

1 thermos of dashi-tofu soup (not part of the bento box)
2-3 oz of the steak we are having with dinner (fixed with asiatic sauces)
1 cup sticky rice (yes, we found the rice maker!) - this in bottom shelf
raisins
kimchee (mild, she doesnt like hot)
pickels
orange slices
2 brussel sprouts (yes, now and again I have a leftover one!)
2 animal crackers
1 beet slice cut to 4 quarters

Her thermos holds about 1.5 cups and is the unbreakable kind.  The box has a 
slot for her chopsticks and at school she can get 'silverware' if she wants.

___ slight digression--
Bike guy just got the cultech's snow tires.  He thinks it's neat to have actual
snow tires.  He'd heard-tell of them, but not seen them before as we are a bit
south so thats not a product he is familiar with actually using.  They attach
though just like any other tire over the innertube liner.  Basically a deeper
tread with 'nopples' to give better traction.  These have little metallic flat
bits (like a sequin in size) that have small projections outwards of about 1/4
inch when new, and are about 1/8th now?  You deflate the tires a bit in ice and
snow.  I remember there were other versions but when I saw the locals snapping
this type up, I went with the herd <g>.  They do not last long but they sure
do work best on ice!

Keeping in mind I had no car for the first 4 years in Sasebo and lived 3 miles
from work for 2.5 of that, you can see I needed to deal with snow and ice at 
times. Riding in when it was dark still one day and taking a gainer over an ice
patch over a bridge (fell in the road!) taught me the need.  I was very lucky
to not be run over by a car.  It was dark, snowing, and the ice was solid in a 
patch that I hit just as you had to 'curve'.  Lost traction and while trying to
correct, slid over and fell in the road.  Very scared japanese lady helped me
up and back to the sidewalk.  I think there was maybe 6ft left from the front
of her car to me when she was able to come to a stop.
